Brad photographed this Golden-chevroned Tanager, Thraupis ornata, from the back deck of the Hotel do Ype's restaurant early in the morning on October 20, 2011. This Brazilian endemic has a golden yellow patch on its shoulders giving it its name. Upperparts and underparts of this male are a deep blue color. The belly and vent are grayish, and the wings have a greenish edge. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
