We left our hotel, the Hotel do Bosque in Pereque, Rio de Janeiro state, on the morning of October 18, 2011, to bird the lowlands near Pereque. Brad photographed this sub-adult King Vulture, Sarcoramphus papa, perched along the side of the road. Adults are predominately white, with black wing tips and tail. The eyes are straw-colored, and the featherless head and neck are multicolored in yellow, orange and red. Temperatures were in the 70's on this foggy day with intermittent heavy rain.
