We were doing some early morning birding in Intervales on October 12, 2011, when we photographed this male Large-tailed Antshrike (Mackenziaena leachii). This species is found in the Atlantic Rain Forest areas of southeastern Brazil. The male of this species is all black with tiny white spots covering its body except for the throat and chest. Temperatures on this cloudy, rainy day were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
