We photographed this Lesser Woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus fuscus) on October 13, 2011, while walking along the road below Pousada Pica Pau at Intervales State Park. Upperparts and underparts are brown with buffy-white streaking on the nape and breast. The head is spotted. Wings and tail are rufous, and the slender bill is curved. The bird is successfully camouflaged against the tree. Temperatures on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
