Brad photographed this Long-tailed Tyrant, Colonia colonus, during a morning visit on October 18, 2011, to the lowlands near Pereque in Brazil. This bird has a pied pattern with its white crown, forehead, and rump. The rest of the body is a blackish-gray. The tail has two elongated central feathers (up to 13 cm. beyond the other retrices). Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this cloudy day.
