We photographed this Long-tailed Tyrant, Colonia colonus, during a visit to the rainforest at Fazenda Angelim on October 16, 2011. This area is located in a valley near the Serra do Mar mountain range. An all-black body is accented by a white forehead and crown. The tail is very long and can reach lengths of up to 12 cm. The white rump patch is visible. The nest, a hole or cavity in a tree, is also visible and might be a tight fit for a bird with such a long tail. Temperatures were in the 60's on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain.
