We took this photograph of a male Ochre-collared Piculet (Picumnus temminckii) while birding the Sede de Pesquizas main clearing at Intervales State Park in Brazil on October 12, 2011. Underparts are white with black barring. A cinnamon-ochre colored collar covers the back of the bird's neck. Males have a black head covered with white spots except for the forecrown which is red. Temperatures on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
