We arrived at the lower portion of the Agulhas Negras Road, which runs through the highest elevations in Itatiaia National Park, at about 7:30 AM on October 19, 2011, for a full day of birding. The Ochre-faced Tody-Flycatcher, Poecilotriccus plumbeiceps, was one of the first species that we saw. The crown and ear-patches are gray. Underparts are a grayish-white color. The chin, throat and area around the dark eye are buff-colored. Upperparts are olive with two yellowish-olive wing-bars. Temperatures were in the 40's on this partly cloudy morning. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
