We spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening of October 20, 2011, birding pasture lands and marshy areas below Itatiaia National Park. The Pale-breasted Spinetail (Synallaxis albescens) was skulking among the tall reed-like vegetation. Upperparts are grayish-brown. Wing coverts and crown are rufous. A prominent white supercilium borders the gray forehead. The tail is a dull brown color. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
