We left our hotel, the Hotel do Bosque in Pereque, Rio de Janeiro state, on the morning of October 18, 2011, to bird the lowlands near Pereque. Brad photographed this colorful Red-necked Tanager, Tangara cyanocephala, perched in a nearby tree eating a juicy grub. This closeup view of the male shows its turquoise, blue, black, orange, black, lime, and emerald-green colored feathers. Temperatures were in the 70's on this partly cloudy humid day.
