During the morning of October 21, 2011, we went to the Hotel Simon at Itatiaia National Park and took a side trail (the same one we took the previous afternoon) to look for the Atlantic Royal Flycatcher. This time we were successful and got good looks. Then we birded the Tres Picos Trail where we photographed this Red-rumped Cacique (Cacicus haemorrhous). This all-black bird has a red rump and a horn-colored bill. Adult birds have blue irises while immature birds have dark irises. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
