We photographed this male Ruby-crowned Tanager (Tachyphonus coronatus) from the covered porch of Pousada Pica Pau at Intervales State Park on October 12, 2011, while waiting for the weather to clear. The ruby colored crown of this all-black bird along with its bicolored bill are visible in the photo. White underwings show when the bird is in flight. Temperatures on this cloudy day with intermittent rain were in the 60's.
