We were birding the Agulhas Negras Road in Itatiaia National Park on October 19, 2011, when Brad photographed this Rufous-backed Antvireo, Dysithamnus xanthopterus, a Brazilian endemic. This male has dark gray upperparts with white spotting on the head. The back, wings and tail are a rich rufous color. Underparts are a grayish white. Temperatures were in the 50's on this partly cloudy morning. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
