On October 15, 2011, we headed to Ubatuba. On our way there, we stopped at a marshy area between Mogi das Cruzes and the smaller town of Biritiba-Mirim to look for the São Paulo Antwren (Formicivora novum), a Brazilian endemic. This species was only recently discovered and described (2005) and consists of a very small number of individuals. Brad took this side view of a female showing white underparts heavily streaked with black. Upperparts are brown with white spotting on the wings. Temperatures were in the mid- to upper 60's on this cloudy afternoon with intermittent rain.
