We spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening of October 20, 2011, birding pasture lands below Itatiaia National Park. It was exciting to watch this Sapphire-spangled Emerald (Amazilia lactea) feeding off in the distance. This hummingbird is similar to the Glittering-throated Emerald (Amazilia fimbriata) but has a violet-blue colored throat. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
