We photographed this Sayaca Tanager (Thraupis sayaca) from the covered porch of Pousada Pica Pau at Intervales State Park on October 12, 2011, during a heavy rain storm. The Sayaca Tanager is the southern and eastern replacement of the very similar Blue-gray Tanager. The Sayaca is a grayish-blue color, with blue shoulders and greenish blue flight feathers. Temperatures on this cloudy day with intermittent rain were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
