Brad photographed this Scale-throated Hermit (Phaethornis eurynome) from the back deck of the Hotel do Ype's restaurant in Itatiaia National Park early in the morning on October 20, 2011. This bird has a dark throat with pale scaling, a tawny-colored supercilium and broad white tips on the tail. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
