After a busy day of birding on October 23, 2011, and our successful hunt for the Three-toed Jacamar (near Sumidouro), we drove back to REGUA (Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu). Our route took us through Teresópolis and the Serra das Órgãos National Park located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Serra dos Órgãos ("Range of the Organs") is a mountain range that was turned into a national park in 1939 to protect native forest and the abundant number of fresh water springs of the area. This photo shows some of the mountains in the range. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
