We photographed this Shiny Cowbird (Molothrus bonariensis) from the covered porch of Pousada Pica Pau at Intervales State Park on October 12, 2011. The male is a dark glossy purple color and has a red iris. A Green-headed Tanager is in the lower right of the photo. Temperatures on this cloudy afternoon with intermittent rain were in the 60's.
