We birded several trails on the Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu (REGUA) grounds during the morning of October 22, 2011. Our main goal was to find a Shrike-like Cotinga (also known as the Elegant Mourner). After a long upwards hike, we were able to get good looks at Laniisoma elegans, with its olive green upperparts and black scalloped bright-yellow underparts. The male has a black cap. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this partly cloudy morning.
