We spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening of October 20, 2011, birding pasture lands below Itatiaia National Park. Brad photographed these Southern Lapwings (Vanellus chilensis) as they flew overhead. Upperparts are brownish. The breast and primaries are black, and the belly is white. Also visible on two of the birds are wing spurs (red) that located at the bend of the wing. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
