We drove from REGUA (Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu) to Nova Friburgo and on to Sumidouro during the latter part of the morning of October 23, 2011. After enjoying splendid views of several Three-toed Jacamars, we saw this Squirrel Cuckoo, Piaya cayana, sitting in a nearby tree. It is a large cuckoo with a long tail and pale gray chest and a dull greenish-yellow colored bill. Upperparts are rufous. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
