The bird shown in this photo belongs to the southern race of the Streaked Flycatcher (Myiodynastes maculatus solitarius). We spent the morning of October 13, 2011, birding along the road below Pousada Pica Pau in Intervales State Park. A dark line through the eye is surrounded by a white supercilium and a white line through the cheek. White underparts are streaked in black, and the brownish upperparts are streaked with white and black. The large bill is black with a pinkish base to the lower mandible. Temperatures on this cloudy, rainy day were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
