We took this photograph of a Swallow-tailed Cotinga (Phibalura flavirostris) while birding Intervales State Park in Brazil on October 12, 2011. The long forked tail, yellow underparts with dark brownish spots, yellow throat, black cap, and yellowish back streaked with dark brown are characteristics that ID this species. We got good scope views of this bird as it perched near its nest. Temperatures on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
