We drove from REGUA (Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu) to Nova Friburgo and on to Sumidouro during the latter part of the morning of October 23, 2011. We spent approximatelly two hours birding this area. The Three-toed Jacamar, Jacamaralcyon tridactyla, was our target bird. It is endemic to a small region of the Atlantic forests of southeastern Brazil. This photo shows one of the Three-toed Jacamar's nesting holes in an embankment on the side of the road. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
