We took this photograph of a Variable Antshrike (Thamnophilus caerulescens) while birding the Sede de Pesquizas main clearing at Intervales State Park in Brazil on October 12, 2011. This gray-colored bird has a black crown, black wings with two white wing-bars, and white tips on the tail feathers. Temperatures on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
