We were visiting Corcovado and the Christ the Redeemer Statue in Tijuca National Park when we spotted a male Velvety Black-Tyrant, Knipolegus nigerrimus, near the visitor's platform. This male is all black, with a red iris, and a black-tipped bill. Some of its white wing band, seen in flight, is visible. Temperatures were in the mid-70's on this partly cloudy morning.
