This Versicolored Emerald (Amazilia versicolor) was perched near the rear balcony off the Hotel do Ype's restaurant in Itatiaia National Park on October 20, 2011. All five subspecies have an orange/pink base to the lower mandible and a coppery-green colored tail with a dusky blue subterminal band. The head and neck coloration varies from a blue-green to a pale-green color depending on the subspecies. This is the same bird shown in the picture to the left of this one in the montage. Temperatures were in the 70's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
