We spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening of October 20, 2011, birding pasture lands and marshy areas below Itatiaia National Park. Brad photographed this White-barred Piculet (Picumnus cirratus) as it forged in a nearby tree. The female has a black crown with white spots and lacks a red crown patch. Buffy nasal tuffs are visible. Upperparts are a grayish-brown color. Underparts are barred black and white. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
