The maximum elevation that we birded along the Agulhas Negras Road in Itatiaia National Park on October 19, 2011, was 2150 meters. We had started back down when Brad photographed this Yellow-headed Caracara, Milvago chimachima, at a lower elevation. The head and underparts are creamy-colored with a black line behind the eye. The bird's white wing panel, undertail barring, and dark terminal tail band are visible. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy afternoon. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
