On our first afternoon in Iguaçu Falls National Park (September 28, 2011), Brad and I birded along the road leading from our hotel to the Devil's Throat area of Iguaçu Falls (Brazilian side). Many different species of birds were perched in the trees along the forest edge including this Scaly-headed Parrot. In the early-evening light, the bird's bluish colored chest and red vent are muted but visible. Temperatures were cooling off from highs in the 90's to lows in the 70's.
