October 1, 2011, was started with some early morning owling near the Poço Preto (Black Well) Road entrance in Iguaçu Falls National Park. Temperatures were in the 70's on this humid morning. This photo shows a male Spot-billed Toucanet with its black head and underparts and yellow ear-tufts. The upperparts and tail are olive-green while the bare skin round the eye is greenish-blue. The bill is ivory in color with a yellowish tip and black vertical stripes.
