Brad and I were birding along the Poço Preto (Black Well) Road in Iguaçu Falls National Park during the morning of September 30, 2011. This is a photo of a female Surucua Trogon showing a pinkish-red lower belly. The female has a white eye-ring and is grey with a black tail edged in white Trogon surrucura has two subspecies; the southern nominate subspecies shown here and the northern aurantius that has an orange-yellow belly. Temperatures on this humid morning were already in the upper 80's.
