This photograph was taken in the Andes Mountains near Santiago, Chile. We were driving and birding along El Camino de Montana heading to La Posada Restaurant Farellones at the top of the mountain. Our guide, a researcher at a local university, said that he had not seen this species for several years. These birds were busy mating and setting up a nest. Temperatures were in the 80's on this warm, sunny day.
