We were up early on April 20, 2012, to go birding and take advantage of the cooler(?) weather. We birded Cayo Paredón Grande, a tiny island of approximately 8.7 square km located in the archipelago of Jardines del Rey (King's garden). It is to the north of the largest island of the region, Cayo Romano. Part of the lighthouse's cast iron tower, painted in a checkered black and yellow pattern, can be seen. The folks manning the station (living quarters to the right of the lighthouse) were having a family reunion, and I appreciated their friendliness and thoughtfulness towards me. Two gate posts can be seen in the foreground. The left one has a date indicating that this lighthouse was built in 1859.
