Cuban Blackbird

During the morning of April 12, 2012, we visited Cueva de los Portales in Parque Nacional La Güira (La Güira National Park) where Che Guevara had his headquarters during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. This area is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Cuba with its caves, river, and lush jungle area. Many species of birds inhabit the area. We saw and photographed several Cuban Blackbirds that are shown in this Montage. The Sierra Maestra is a mountain range that runs westward across the south of the old Oriente Province from what is now Guantánamo Province to Niquero in southeastern Cuba.
