The Cuban Bullfinch, Melopyrrha nigra, is a Cuban endemic. This bird is shiny black in color with a white wing patch. The bill is thick and black. Males and females are similar with the exception that females are duller in color and have a smaller wing patch. We birded the Bermejas Reserve (Zapata Peninsula) near Playa Larga in Cuba during morning of April 14, 2012. This turned out to be a great location to view many of Cuba's endemic species. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this humid, sunny morning.
