Late in the afternoon on April 17, 2012, we birded in the semi-deciduous forest of Najasa (a municipality and city in the Province of Camagüey in Cuba) near La Belén National Park. This is a photograph of a female Cuban Green Woodpecker showing a black forecrown, red hindcrown, and red nape. Males and females of this species have a small red patch on the base of the throat and upper chest. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this partly cloudy day.
