We birded in the semi-deciduous forest of Najasa (a municipality and city in the Province of Camagüey in Cuba) near La Belén National Park during the morning of April 18, 2012. The endemic Cuban Green Woodpecker, Xiphidiopicus percussus, shown in this photograph has a bright olive green back with dark streaks on its yellow underparts. The head is mostly white with a thick black postocular stripe. Males and females of this species have a small red patch at the base of the throat extending to the upper chest. Temperatures were in the 70's on this sunny morning.
