Cuban Parakeet

The first photograph shown in this Montage of the endemic CubanParakeet, Aratinga euops, was taken during an afternoon visit (April 17, 2012) to "Sierra del Chorrillo" Managed Resources Protected Area located about 54 Km from Camagüey in the Najasa municipality. We birded Finca La Belén, a typical Camagüey farm, sited on this protected area. Cuban Parakeets require nesting holes in (Royal) palms or in arboreal termite nests. The rest of the photographs were taken the next morning (April 18, 2012) as we hiked in the same area. The six parakeets in this small flock were busy preening and grooming themselves and each other.
