During the morning of April 18, 2012, we visited "Sierra del Chorrillo" Managed Resources Protected Area located about 54 Km from Camagüey in the Najasa municipality. We birded Finca La Belén, a typical Camagüey farm, sited on this protected area. The endemic Cuban Parakeet, Aratinga euops, is a vivid green color with red spots scattered on the head, neck and breast. The tail is long and pointed. The ocular area is surrounded by a white ring of bare flesh. The photo shows the large, red area on the bend of the underwing of the leftmost bird. We spent about twenty minutes watching this flock of six individuals as they groomed and preened themselves and each other. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this humid, sunny morning.
