We birded the Sopillar region of Zapata, a vast wetland and forest area around the Bay of Pigs, late in the afternoon on April 14, 2012. The endemic Cuban Tody (Todus multicolor) has brilliant green upperparts, pale gray underparts, and a bright red throat patch flanked on each side of the neck with a blue patch. The eyes are blue, and the bird's sides are pink. It was hot and humid with temperatures in the upper 80's during this late afternoon hike.
