Late in the afternoon on April 17, 2012, we birded Finca La Belén, a typical Camagüey farm, located on the "Sierra del Chorrillo" Managed Resources Protected Area (about 54 Km from Camagüey in the Najasa municipality). Brad and I saw our first Giant Kingbird in the trees near the horse barn and dining area at La Belén. The endemic Giant Kingbird, Tyrannus cubensis, has dark gray upperparts, a blackish head, and white underparts. It's bill is larger and more massive than that of the Loggerhead Kingbird (T. caudifasciatus). Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this humid, sunny morning.
