This is a photo of a statue of José Martí (January 28, 1853 - May 19, 1895) that we took while on a city tour of Havana along the Paseo del Prado during the morning of April 13, 2012. Martí is a Cuban national hero and an important figure in Latin American literature. Some of the poetry from his collection Versos Sencillos (Simple Verses) have been used in the song Guantanamera (see below).
