During the morning of April 15, 2012, we birded the La Turba area on the Zapata Peninsula. One of our target birds was the endemic Red-shouldered Blackbird, Agelaius assimilis. The male shown here has an orange-red colored shoulder patch that is only visible when the bird is flying or displaying. Females are entirely black in color. Temperatures were in the low 80's with sunny skies.
