We photographed this building located near Trinidad's Plaza Mayor to show some of the typical features associated with Trinidadian homes. Terracotta tiled roofs and pastel-colored paintwork are common architectural features. Windows lack glass and are open to the elements. Barrotes or bars constructed of small turned wooden columns cover the windows and allow air to circulate. In the 19th century these wooden barriers were replaced by wooden shutters behind decorated wrought-iron grilles. The large windows are raised slightly from ground level and are an attractive feature.
