The second day of our Eucadorean birding tour took us to the Tandayapa Valley. This area of undamaged cloud forest and beautiful mountain scenery was approximately a two hour drive from our hotel, the Hotel Quito. It was a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the low to mid-80's. One of our guides, Paul J. Greenfield who coauthored The Birds of Ecuador, took us on to land that he owned along the Nono-Mindo Road. This photograph is of poor quality because of the dense foliage and low light conditions. Distance also played a factor because the bird was located on the other side of a ravine over 400 yards away (testing the limits of our camera and lens).
