The second day of our Eucadorean birding tour took us to the Tandayapa Valley. This area of undamaged cloud forest and beautiful mountain scenery was approximately a two hour drive from our hotel, the Hotel Quito. The photograph of this Empress Brilliant was taken during the morning of our birding trip to the Tandayapa Valley. We drove along the Nono-Mindo road and stopped at Bellavista Colibries to have a cold drink and bird. It was a partly cloudy morning with temperatures in the low to mid-80's.
