This photograph was taken on a stop along the Nono-Mindo Road near an area of land owned by Paul J. Greenfield, one of our birding guides. Mr. Greenfield is a coauthor of The Birds of Ecuador. This male Plate-billed Mountain Toucan was in the tree canapy on the other side of a ravine about 400 yards away when this photo was taken. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this partly cloudy day.
