Late in the afternoon on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, we were hiking in the giant tortoise preserve on Santa Cruz Island when we saw this Small Tree Finch. This species is more common in the highlands. It often feeds like a chickadee (upside-down) at the end of branches. The subspecies located on Santa Cruz is parvulus. It was a warm afternoon with cloudy skies and intermittent light rain (garua).
